The Valais platter

This is the ideal dish to start your meal or as a snack to satisfy your mid-day hunger! The Valais platter traditionally consists of dried meat from Valais, cured ham, dry bacon, dry sausage, a piece of raclette cheese and rye bread. It is accompanied by traditional onions and pickled gherkins to add a touch of acidity, as well as the essential glass of Gamay or Fendant wine.

Rösti

There’s nothing like a good rösti to fill you up after a great day’s skiing! This is a traditional Swiss dish made from grated potatoes. It can be served as a side dish, but the Valais version with raclette cheese and/or dried meat makes it a meal in its own right.

Raclette

In winter, this is THE dish that has warmed entire generations of Valaisans since the 16th century! Here, raclette is an institution. A moment of pleasure, conviviality and sharing. This cheese, made from raw alpine milk, is melted and spread on a slice of bread or a potato, and it is in Valais that you will find the best. Thyon is transformed into an alpine pasture in the summer, where you can taste locally produced cheese wheels (because in Valais, there is no season for raclette!).

Fondue

Another pillar of Swiss cuisine and a winter staple, fondue comes in a variety of flavours to suit all tastes: tomato, porcini mushroom or traditional plain. Most restaurants in Thyon offer it on their menus.
